Times are getting harder for the wizarding world. Wizards are beginning to notice certain changes. Voldemort is reaching the height of his power. He is gathering more and more followers, and slowly is dipping into the Hogwarts' student body. Many are willingly joining, and not caring who knows about it. Some are stuck in between their friends, and what they believe. Others, are strictly against it.
The Order of the Phoenix is gathering together as well. Students who know about it want to join. Professor Albus Dumbledore is not allowing students under the age of seventeen to join. Voldemort wouldn't care if you were five. If you were willing to take the dark mark, then your soul is forever in his grasp.
The 1971 term has started. Students are beginning to turn against each other. "Mudblood" is a common term heard in the halls. Most of the older Slytherin students have joined the dark side, like Lucius Malfoy, and he makes it known. He is lead of the Hogwarts pack of Death Eaters. There is just one student, Lucius is having a hard time of persuading - Severus Snape.
Snape is caught between what everyone expects him to do, and what his best friend and his love, Lily Evans, wants him to do. He feels the social pressure to join but, he feels that Lily might look at him differently if he does. Snape is at wits end as to what to do. So, he's trying to compromise and convince Lily to join with him. He tries using the argument that it's the only way he can protect her from the coming fate of muggle borns. Lily is at wits end of what to follow, her heart or her friend.
In the meantime, the Marauders are leading a group of students that are against the Death Eaters. They are too young to join the OOTP just yet, so for know they are supports of the cause. James Potter has come to the realization that he has feelings for Miss Evans. He wishes to act on those feelings but, he's shy and afraid of the possible rejection. James knows what sort of feelings Snape is. He also knows that Snape isn't a good choice for Lily. In just show Lily the true face of Severus Snape, he is torturing him more and more as each day passes, in hopes to make Snape snap. Snape, is holding out pretty well so far.
